Lessons in Luxe

Behind interior designer Bianca Newton is an amazing sense of style and a determination to add a touch of luxury to every project. Here, Emma Freeman chats to her about what goes on behind the scenes.

WHAT INSPIRES YOUR DESIGNS?
Everything from fashion to art, films and friends. I love the elaborate detailing of traditional Parisian apartments alongside modern art. The combination of fashion and film in documentaries, such as those about Valentino, Marc Jacobs, Karl Lagerfeld, for their drive, creativity and passion. I subscribe to fashion blogs and am constantly inspired by the way colours and patterns are married together to create ‘a look’ or trend. Everything from Yves Saint Laurent’s furniture and art collection to Cy Twombly’s home in Rome with its dual aesthetic and personal layered style.

AND YOUR GREATEST CHALLENGE?
Every project has its challenges, that’s what keeps things interesting! From bringing projects in on time and budget, to working with site constraints, there are many aspects to my job that aren’t necessarily glamorous!

THREE WORDS TO DESCRIBE YOUR DESIGNS?
Elegant, modern, eclectic!
