While outdoor showers are popular for homes near the beach or with pools, why not look to building one in your own courtyard or private garden – regardless of whether you have a pool or not. Done well, an outdoor shower or bath, can be the best place to relax and unwind – a special place for you to be among nature and under the stars.

Looking for fresh inspiration for your bathroom? The latest trends blend new and old for a look that's all style.

Bring a dramatic touch to your bathroom with bold blacks and crisp white

1. Keen to save on space in the bathroom? Low-profile tapware makes it easy to create a crisp, uncluttered look. Kohler’s Stillness collection of taps and
accessories works well here with the simple lines of the wall-faced Panache toilet and the Evok 1800mm drop-in rectangular bath. Featuring a polished chrome finish that is resistant to corrosion and no visible fixings, the range is available exclusively from Tradelink stores nationally and Mico Design stores.

It’s simple pleasures like being wrapped in a snug, fluffy towel that can start your day with a smile or help you drift off to sleep at night – but how many times have you hopped out of the shower and found yourself with a scratchy and stiff towel that feels more like cardboard? Don’t get caught out! The experts at Canningvale give us some excellent towel-care tips – and check out our selection of gorgeous towels for the home, beach and pool.

Good storage is essential to a well-organised bathroom but, as with shoes, often what’s practical isn’t always attractive. The new Ketho range of bathroom furniture by Duravit brings style and function together in four smart colours, including one of the hottest shades at the moment, grey. Designed by Christian Werner, it features clean lines and ergonomic design that’s ideally suited to any modern bathroom.

Want to give your bathroom a glamorous new look? Then a gorgeous freestanding bath is the way to go. This style is becoming very popular with home builders and renovators and is guaranteed to make you feel like you’re soaking away in a luxurious hotel.

Built-in shelving is an attractive and practical way to save space in a small bathroom – once in place, just decorate with some pretty candles, flowers or beauty products. This lovely bathroom also features Laminex’s new Aquapanel wet area wall panelling in Polar White Tiles.

Just because your bathroom is on the small side doesn’t mean you can’t have a stylish and functional space. This bathroom by Gieffe Interior Environments uses built-in storage and a small vanity to create the impression of a larger room.

With three very young children, it’s pretty hectic at bathtime, so John and his wife needed a practical main bathroom with room to move about freely, but they also wanted it modern and stylish.

Luxurious features and spectacular views make Damien Bruce’s bathroom the perfect place to relax. Damien and his family began building their dream home in Caringbah, NSW in 2004 with the help of Queensland-based architecture firm Design Imagery. The whole house took a year to complete – from start to finish – and when it came to creating their bathroom, they were keen to put their own stamp on the space.
